Tagged: "Carli in Images"

Okay, so I got tagged by two different people to do two different (somewhat annoying :) "Me in Images" posts, so I kind of combined them; here's a handful of random facts--in images--about me.

********************
1. Favorite room? My Bedroom - I'm a person who appreciates my personal space. :)

********************
2. A Fan of? Dashboard Confessional. So sneakers or flip-flops? I'm starting to panic! Remember she asked you? Remember to breathe... Been to 3 concerts, know the words to every song (but NEVER sing into a hairbrush :), have sweet DC memorabilia, sport a "Swiss Army Romance" ringtone, and CAN'T WAIT for the new album he's working on!

********************
3. What are your children doing right now? Singing "Once there was a snowman, tall, Tall, TALL!" HE NEVER STOPS! :)

********************
4. Closet? Yes, I color-coordinate my clothes on a delightful rainbow continuum. Once again, I'm a little OCD about a few things...

********************
5. Dream Vacation? Going back to Spain! I lived there while studying Spanish Language & Culture at the University of Granada. WOW. Memories of many sensational experiences I will NEVER forget.

********************
6. Item you could not live without? As Dierks Bentley would say, "Every mile a memory!" I run 5 miles with my iPod Shuffle every morning! I would go insane without my little musical companion to keep me going.

********************
7. To get from here to there? A 2007 Chrysler Sebring. I LOVE MY CAR!!

********************
8. Self-Portrait? *Mwah!*

********************
9. Yard? Well...my parents' yard, anyway.

********************
10. Something you’re procrastinating? Finishing a star/heart piece quilt I started. There are 25 different fabrics that I had to cut and shuffle and am now piecing back together into 25 blocks. It's SO much work--I don't know if I have the energy! Perhaps I'll post a photo of the finished quilt...if I ever stop procrastinating and FINISH IT! (gulp!)

********************
11. Collection? I have this obsession with BUYING books I read. Like, it bugs me to just check a book out from the library or borrow it from someone, I have to HAVE it on my shelf. Dumb, I know. But I suppose it's a telltale symptom of true OCD nerdy-English-Teacher Syndrome. (sigh)

********************
12. Favorite Shoes? Okay, I know many of you are looking at these sweet checkered VANS going, "I'm admittedly jealous, but WHAT in the world does she even wear those with???" My answer to you: EVERYTHING! (And I'm honestly okay with you ending that question with a preposition.) These shoes are just ME! I wore these babies to BOTH Dashboard Confessional AND Dierks Bentley (haha, can you see that?). They just go.

********************

Okay, now to pass this burdensome post on to someone else: I tag KALIE, AUBS, and CANDACE.

Men have NO clue!

Okay, you HAVE to listen to this marvelous story! (click here, and listen, don't just read)

Why do we women feel that we must go to such absurd lengths to impress stupid MEN?!

(Thanks for the laugh, Krystle! :)

I SWEAR I don't sing into my brush like it's a microphone...

Er, uh, yeah. Parents Beware: Children watch EVERYTHING you do. Maybe he shouldn't be present when I'm getting ready in the mornings anymore? At any rate, Rio's an aspiring artist, and I'm not about to hinder his bravura. But really, I won't let him humiliate himself--like the mothers of some American Idol hopefuls do--if he sucks later in life. :) But look at the kid--of course he won't suck. Backstage passes, anyone?

Memories...

Here is a fun little game... Leave a comment on my blog of a memory that you and I have had together. It doesn't matter if you've known me for a short time, or a long time, anything you remember! Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you. On your mark...get set...blog your memories!!

Mama called the doctor and the doctor said...

Last week Rio spent a couple of nights in the hospital with pneumonia! :( It started out with a little cold, and then before I knew it, his breathing was frighteningly labored and shallow! I called on a Thursday morning, June 26th, to try to get him in to see a doctor, and the receptionist was like, "Hmm, we could get you in on Monday at 1:30?" DUH. Did you hear what I said, lady? My 2-year-old son is wheezing and struggling to breathe. No, Monday probably won't work for us.

So later that afternoon, I decided to take him in to the ER; I was worried he would quit breathing during the night! They x-rayed his chest and drew blood and watched/listened to him breathe. After 2 hours in the ER and me singing the ABC's AT LEAST 35 times while we waited, Dr. Besendorfer finally returned and informed me that Rio had pneumonia and that he was going to admit him. Let's just say that after already having had his blood drawn, Rio was not cooperative in the least bit with the IV. Which, I can't entirely blame him for. After Nurse #1 blew two more of the poor kid's veins, traumatizing him in the meantime, I politely asked if there was someone else who could try. By then, it took 5 adults (no joke) to hold this 28-pound kid down while Nurse #2 tried to poke him AGAIN and hook up the IV, and he fought and cried and SCREAMED over and over and over, in the most confused, desperate little voice, "MOMMY, HELP ME! MOMMY, HELP ME!" Yeah, I was NOT okay. I hope I never hear my son say those words that way again.

I had called one of my best friends, Ryan Wright, to come and give him a blessing. He came right over, which I was so grateful for. We had just taken Rio to his room, when Ryan and his friend showed up with the oil and gave him an awesome Priesthood Blessing. He brought Rio a sick toy police car that made all sorts of siren noises. It was JUST what Rio needed. He completely--well, almost--forgot that he was chained to a hospital bed with a clear tube strung out of his arm! (Thanks, Ry! You're the best.)

Rio and I spent 2 days curled up together on the little Barbie hospital bed--watching Tom & Jerry, coloring, reading, more Tom & Jerry, singing the ABC's, eating delicious hospital food, and watching--you guessed it!--Tom & Jerry. The nurse gave Rio one more shot of antibiotics in his leg the last day; he was so brave! What a scare. I'm glad he is okay--it amazes me how resilient this little guy is. And boy, was Mommy ever glad to get back home to her mommy-sized bed. :)

My Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens, brown paper packages tied up with strings... These are a few of MY favorite things:

* RIO (how did I live without you for 23 years?!) * Teaching Junior High English (oh, the drama!) * Dashboard Confessional (you have STOLEN my heart) * Tomato Soup & Cheese Bread (the way to a woman's heart...) * Rain on my skylights in the middle of the night * The Color Purple (NOT the book, the COLOR!) * Crossword Puzzles (am I OCD if I can't go to sleep until I've done my crossword for the night??) * Edward Cullen (K, forget about Bella already--bite ME!) * My iPod (the love of my life, after Rio) * Running! Running! * Talking to my plants (THEY don't think I'm a crazy plant lady) * Hablas Espanol? (ah, Granada, mi corazon) * Superheroes * My Homemade Orange Marmalade (sinful) * Turquoise Jewelry * a Full Moon (and what a waste would that be without a slow kiss to go with it?) * C.S.I.
